The Department of Nursing & Allied Health at the College of the Marshall Islands prepares students to provide basic nursing care in the Marshall Islands and the Micronesia region. The curriculum offers an Associate of Science degree in Nursing and a Certificate in Public Health.
The mission of the Nursing & Allied Health program at the College of the Marshall Islands provides quality, student-centered nursing education to Marshallese and Pacific Islands citizens who desire a career in the nursing profession and to fulfill the need for well trained nurses in the country. The goal of the program reflects the goal of the college to be a model nursing program for the Pacific region, providing state-of–the art technology in teaching, combined with innovative curriculum and programming to improve the welfare of our community through quality care nursing and to offer nursing students opportunities to transfer to institutions of higher learning.
Student enrolled in nursing clinic courses will be using the Simulation lab to practice their nursing skills prior to clinic practice in the hospital setting. The regular nursing lab is equipped with five hospital beds and regular mannequins for student practice. This lab is set up like a hospital ward with IV poles, suction, and oxygen outlets as well as other hospital furnishings. Students are required to practice their nursing skills in their free time and this lab is available for their practice sessions. The nursing lab is also available for students to view DVDs and video cassettes as part of their course requirements.
The Public Health certificate program provides training that prepares public health workers and others to respond to emerging public health issues. It is intended for current public health employees and high school graduates interested in obtaining knowledge about public health concepts to enhance their ability to successfully improve the health of their community. The curriculum stresses creativity in designing and implementing public health progarms and projects which are scientifically proven and culturally acceptable.
