Today, Friday August 25, 2023 at 9:00am students from the CMI Maritime Program deck and engine room watch students visited the Alele Museum and Public Library. The students and instructor browsed through the articles and books of Sailing in Micronesia. We also looked at books about Melanesia, Polynesia, migration and seafaring titles. Later, we went down to the museum and looked at the interesting collections of photographs of canoes and other artifacts used in navigation. The museum showed displays of the stars, moon, sun, and the stick charts. The charts were used by navigators’ long time ago. Using the chars to navigate their canoes traveling from one island to the next. The museum also displayed many types of canoes, tools used in building and fishing methods to fish.
