Safe Fishing, Legal Fishing Workshop

The College of the Marshall Islands Maritime Vocational Training Center partnered with Fish Safety Foundation to conduct the Safe Fishing, Legal Fishing Workshop on October 22, 2020. The FISH Safety Foundation is an international non-profit organization, dedicated to improving Health & Safety outcomes in Commercial Fishing – an industry recognized as the worlds’ most hazardous.

The workshop brought in experts from the Marshall Islands Shipping Industry, RMI Ministry of Transportation, Communication and Information Technology, Republic of the Marshall Islands Port Authority, Marshall Islands Shipping Corporation, Waan Aelon in Majel, OKEANOS Marshall Islands, Majuro Atoll Local Governments Local Police and Majuro’s Local Fishermen.

The workshop was to raise general awareness important international treaties and standards that assist in improving safety, working conditions, welfare and prevention of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in the global fishing industry.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands is already a signatory of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other treaties to comply with Safety and Health of our shipping industry.  There are plans to
conduct more awareness session in the community.
