CMI Ebeye Center Library ‘American Corner Handing Over

The US Ambassador Karen B. Stewart visited the CMI EBEYE Center on Monday 12th November 2018 to officiate at the opening and handing over ceremony of library resources to establish an ‘American Reading Corner’. The donation involved books, a computer complete with a computer desk and earphones which was graciously accepted by the CMI President, Dr Theresa Koroivulaono and the staff of the center. Dr Theresa echoed the sentiments of the Ambassador by stating that this is a continuing partnership to develop and connect classrooms, libraries, and the promotion of reading and literacy in RMI atoll communities. CMI is grateful to the US government with its continuing support and commitment to the college and RMI communities for the reading corners and its resources.

The CMI Ebeye Center library will be part of the CMI complex within the Queen of Peace Elementary School.  With this opening, it is envisaged that the library will be able to fully open its services to members of the Ebeye community in 3 months’ time. The American Reading Corner’s main purpose is to encourage and excite students to read and relate to their curriculum and lessons with books and internet access only an arm’s length away.

In improving its services at location beyond the urban core, CMI has already established the Arrak Center library and hopes to do the same with Ebeye and Jaluit. These center libraries will not only serve CMI students but the general community at large. It is anticipated that these libraries will be on par with the Uliga Main Campus one to support CMI student learning and students in all campuses will have equal access to learning tools and resources both in print and online.
