Goal of the agroforestry program is introducing the fundamental concepts in agroforestry identifying both global and national needs for agroforestry in Marshall Islands environment and the fundamental concepts of various terrestrial ecosystems, study of the richest natural ecosystem on earth-the coral reef found in the Marshall Islands. Participants developed agroforestry soil beds using traditional practices for beet, chinese cabbage, pepper, spinach and various other native seeds. Mayors, Ministry of Natural Resources & Commerce (MoNRC) Agriculture Extension agents, CMI President, VP of CMI Land Grant, CMI Grant Coordinator, CCD rep, and friends and family of participants attended the graduation ceremony of Agroforestry Program on 3rd September 2020. Farming experts and professionals with agriculture background joined the program from Lae, Namu, Mejit, Wotho, Majuro and Ebon with total number of 11 graduates.
CMI’s Agroforestry Certificate Program included five courses for two- month module, first module starting back in May of 2020 as a three-week course work and lab work. Second module started in August 2020 for four weeks, resulting in successful completion of the program and the students receiving an Agroforestry Certificate of Accomplishment. Agroforestry experts/professionals required by both government sector and non- government sectors, entrepreneurship for agroforestry based products as representatives and marketing experts.
