DEAN OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

MASTER OF SOCICAL WORK CLINICAL THERAPIST

ATOLL AGRICULTURE RESEARCHER

Under the supervision of the Dean for Land Grant CRE, the Atoll Agriculture Researcher supports the operations of the Cooperative Research & Extension Program at CMI Arrak Campus, Majuro Atoll, Marshall Islands.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • In consultation with national stakeholders and based on the objectives of the COM 5 year Plan of Work and CMI-CRE Strategic Plan, submits 2 - 4 written proposals to USDA for approval.
  • In addition to USDA grants, researcher will seek funding from local or outside sources.
  • Required to maintain at least two approved projects under USDA-CSREES Hatch Funding within the first year of contract.
  • Develop a research program addressing the nation's needs in wanting to improve agricultural production and food security.
  • Conduct test field crops - fruits and other crops in atoll soil conditions.
  • Expected to perform applied research.
  • Must be able to transfer knowledge to local counterparts.
  • Work closely with agriculture staff from CRE program and government agencies.
  • Required to travel to outer islands/atolls to set up and monitor projects.
  • Publish research findings in Peer - reviewed Journals.
  • Develop research and extension publications for clienteles.
  • Has a percentage of time responsibility to support and conduct extension activities with Land Grant Extension Agents including formulation of research findings in a format suitable for extension use.
  • May be required to teach college level courses based on time and budget availability.
  • Perform other duties assign by the CRE Dean.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in Agronomy with research experience in crop, plant and tree production.
  • Experience in feedstock and energy generation using crops/plants/trees also a plus.
  • Experience with projects in atolls or island conditions.
  • Teaching experience at college/university level a plus.
  • English fluency preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and to collaborate with local and international partners.
Salary and Benefits:
  • Salary: $30,000 per year
  • Initial contract for two (2) years
  • Renewal will be based on performance and mutual agreement.
  • Benefits includes: Housing allowance, transportation and shipping allowances.
