Goals and Mission Statement
Information Technology is increasingly becoming a mission critical department for most organizations in the modernized world, regardless of size. In order to best serve the greater community of the College of the Marshall Islands (CMI), the Information Technology Department (IT Dept) wishes to clearly define its purpose in this community.
A recent poll of the IT Department complete July 24, 2006 yielded the following as intra-department goals:
- Provide satisfactory tech-support to the rest of campus
- Look to improve quality of education through technological enhancements to learning environments
- Provide a secure and reliable digital infrastructure
- Provide tech-support to entire campus community (faculty/staff/students/administrators) so daily tasks can be performed efficiently
- Provide reliable internet connection to entire campus community
- Keep campus computer labs open every day so resources are available for all students to study, learn, and complete research
- Support the general education goals on the college
- Improve existing internet services
- Keep ourselves relative with professional IT and MIS training for our staff
- Support campus with an infrastructure the utilizes the latest technology
- Logically organize and manage our materials
Based on the findings of this unstructured poll of the staff within the office of the Information Technology Department, the following statement of purpose has been drafted (draft date: July 26, 2006):
We, the Information Technology Department at the College of the Marshall Islands seek to do our part to support the overall educational goals of the college. In order to perform our assigned duties to the best of our abilities we recognize our need to effectively manage our materials and one of the most organized offices on the Campus. We also recognize that the ability to perform our tasks come from knowledge and skills acquired two different ways; from experience and from education. All our staff members will strive to enhance their abilities through both avenues. The most important service Information Technology provides to the general campus is providing the infrastructure and support necessary for the connecting of individual technologies. We should provide secure and reliable internet and intranet connections to all members of the College of the Marshall Islands’ community at the highest available bandwidths. The infrastructure and devices provided by our department are not designed to last forever or to be indestructible. In the event of device or infrastructure failure, staff from our Department will promptly provide the best possible tech-support. In order that campus technology resources are effectively utilized and available when required, we are willing to provide the support needed for operation seven days a week.
